As humans, we inherently question the world around us. This human experience can be difficult to deal with and to understand fully. We feel isolated, alone, despairing. Existentialism discusses these bleak ideas, using them to push humanity further as a whole. It asks us to reevaluate our lives, our purposes, our perceptions, and our meanings. It makes us search and question; it makes us appreciate the life we have now.

After going through my own existential crisis, I sought out a visual metaphor—something to make life easier to understand. I looked to the city around me; so alive with people set against a decaying, crumbling background.

There is a beauty in this breakdown.

Cracking foundations and chipping paint are sentinels for a generation passed. They keep watch over the new masses that frequent the old playgrounds. Representing humanity as a whole; they are weathered by the hostile universe, just as we are...

...a constant reminder that we are not alone after all.
